The kidney transplant journey begins.
TeamTandyla is supporting a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother through every step of the kidney transplantation process. We’ll document the process here and provide more information about how you can get involved in supporting TeamTandyla and others in search of a living kidney donor.
Nearly 5 years ago, Tandyla overcame her fear of heights to cross a suspension bridge near Vancouver. Fast forward to 2020 – days like these are hard to come by – for now. A new kidney will help her conquer new heights and regain the life she hopes to continue living.
- Miles to Go
Tandyla’s son, Bronson Hill, will be running in honor of his mom for 24 hours straight as part of the 24 HardWay race near Lake Hefner on October 17, 2020.
Join the TeamTandyla racing team to virtually cheer on Bronson! We’ll be checking with Bronson in the next month as he continues to prepare for the race. You’ve probably already seen him running around Edmond has he’s logged in miles for the past several months.
We are working on additional ways all of us can cheer him on, spread the word about Tandyla, and log some miles ourselves for our own health. Pledge info, ways to log some miles for TeamTandyla, and merch info will be provided here. But please join us on Facebook to let us know you’ll be with Bronson and Tandyla virtually in October.
- A Detour. Not a Dead End.
TeamTandyla – we have some bad news. Tandyla’s kidney function just hit a new low despite doing all the things asked of her.
What does this mean for her transplant chances? It’s not a dead end. But she is now on a detour towards needing to start dialysis. This was a path that her care team hoped she could avoid before locating a donor.
While dialysis takes some time to get started, Tandyla is still hoping to locate a living donor before she officially starts the process.
Please pray and think good thoughts as she tries to look at dialysis as a detour, and not a dead end, before finally arriving at a kidney transplant.
Visit the Contact page to learn how to contact the OU Kidney Transplant Team. And send a note to Tandyla to let her know you’re keeping her in your thoughts and prayers!
- Help spread the word while stuck in traffic!
TeamTandyla will be spreading the word about Tandyla’s need for a living donor at a traffic jam/parking lot near you. We will have limited supply of 6 inch by 6 inch magnetic car signs available if you would like to use your car to also spread the word. We chose magnetic to help us get through this hopefully temporary time frame while Tandyla searches for a living donor.
If you’re interested in getting a car sign for your vehicle, please email us on the Contact page!
- One step closer…
Another day, another meeting with a member of the transplant team.
Tandyla met with one of the transplant surgeons at OU Medical Center. After a gut-wrenching visit to a different transplant team last week, she was not feeling optimistic about the path ahead.
But much to her surprise, her journey towards being approved for transplant continues to move forward. A few more lab tests and one more doctor’s visit are left before the OU transplant considers her case and determines if she is suitable for a kidney transplant.
Now, more than ever, her prospective transplant team is emphasizing she spread the word about her condition so that she increases her chances of receiving a living kidney donation.
So the next stop for TeamTandyla is the world of graphic design – for magnetic car decals, T-Shirts or anything else to catch someone’s eye and encourage them to learn more about living kidney donation.
Interested in a car decal, t-shirt, or have another idea? Let us know!
